Niagara Falls: how to get there, the best observation platforms and entertainment

Niagara Falls is one of the non-official wonders of the world. And although this is not the largest, not the deepest and not the other very-very, every year millions of people come here to give in to the inexplicable magic of Niagara.

Niagara is a complex of three waterfalls that are located on the border of two states - the United States and Canada. The best view of this magnificence is from the Canadian side, which is why Travellizy will tell you how to get there from Toronto.

How to get to Niagara Falls

You can get to the famous waterfalls either by public transport or by a rented car.

You can go by train or bus. If you go by bus, then the journey will take about an hour and a half.

In the city of Niagara Falls, you can take a local bus and, after a couple of minutes, drive up directly to the waterfalls. You can replace a trip around the city with a 30-minute walk and visit several more attractions, which we will talk about a little later.

Every morning, a train leaves for Niagara from the main train station. One way ticket costs $ 44. At a different time, trains run to Burlington station. A bus runs from Burlington to Niagara Falls. Tickets can be bought in advance here https://www.viarail.ca/en/explore-our-destinations/stations/ontario/toronto.

By car, the journey will take about two hours, but along the way, you will see so many interesting things that we think: you travel will be much longer.

What can be seen on the way to Niagara Falls

The way from Toronto runs through the Niagara Peninsula, where a huge number of wineries, breweries and gardens are concentrated. They produce here wonderful classic dry wines and a local specialty, the ice wine, which is known throughout the world. Grapes for this wine are harvested after the first frost.

The town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is a small, almost toy town with a brick tower with a clock in the central square, tiny shops and cozy restaurants. From April to October, the Bernard Shaw Festival takes place here, where performances of his plays are shown. You can find out about the performances that will be coming soon on the festival website.

A few kilometers to the waterfalls, there is another attraction - a whirlpool. The Niagara River makes a sharp turn in this place, and you can see the natural miracle and experience the thrill from the height of the cable car cabin.

Entertainment and cafes at Niagara Falls

The city of Niagara Falls itself stretches along the Niagara River and is a completely resort place. Everything here works to ensure that tourists have something to do besides contemplating the natural beauties. There are all kinds of attractions, restaurants, museums and casinos here. You can visit the zoo, dolphinarium and even an insectarium with a wonderful collection of butterflies.

Have a look at the waterfalls from the Skylon View Tower, which is 160 meters high. Only from there, you can see all three waterfalls at the same time. And you can have lunch or dinner there, just book a table in advance.

If the Skylon tower has been operating since the 60s of the XX century, then the 53-meter ferris wheel was built relatively recently. It also offers a magnificent view of all the waterfalls. The attraction is open all year round and is part of a large entertainment complex. You can find out about the types and prices of tickets here.

Go on a cruise around Niagara Falls

You can feel the power of a waterfall and even feel droplets of water on your lips during a “cruise” to the inside of the horseshoe. Several companies make cruises, including those from the American side. If you are afraid of rocking, but you still really want to see the miracle of nature closer, there is a special tunnel, through which you can go to the very edge of the coast and find yourself at the foot of a 53-meter waterfall. And if you want something really special, you can fly over the abyss on a bungee.

In the evening, you can stay for fireworks at a light and music show, which colors multi-ton streams of water.

night view

By the way, all of the above outdoor activities are available to visitors from April to October. In the cold season, it is much quieter, fewer people, but the waterfalls are even more beautiful because of this.

niagara winter

And when the real Canadian frosts descend, Niagara in general can hit the whole world and freeze. Then you are lucky enough to see two miracles at once. Hurry up, it might happen just this winter?
