Cannes: what to visit besides the film festival

Cannes is associated with the Cannes Film Festival, but what if you came from at a different time? Travellizy Team will introduce to you other sights of the popular resort on the Cote d'Azur.

What to see in Cannes

The convenient location just 25 minutes from Nice International Airport, the stunning nature between the sea and the mountains, the perfect climate with more than 300 sunny days a year, as well as vast experience in the field of conferences and exhibitions makes Cannes one of the leaders in the field of business tourism, therefore, even in the absence of a film festival, the famous Palais des Festivals et des Congrès remains the main attraction of Cannes.

Palais des Festivals et des Congrès

The Palace of Festivals and Congresses has been opening its door to guests of the Cannes Film Festival since 1947, and it also offers a rich cultural program at any other time, since it works all year round. Everyone can not only take a photo on the red carpet, but also go to a concert or a theater performance in the famous congress hall, after buying a ticket. Make sure to check out Cannes Hall of Fame, where celebrities leave handprints and signatures on the sidewalk.

Museums in Cannes: tips before visiting

Le Murs Peints is another attraction of Cannes. These are giant wall paintings, whose theme is associated with the cinema. They can be found in various places throughout the city, and the very first and most popular work, entitled Cinéma Cannes with 32 characters, illustrates the setting of the scenery and the start of filming. Le Murs Peints is a true open-air cinema museum!

History and art lovers will love the Musée de la Castre, which features prestigious collections belonging to Cannes. But the peculiarity of the Musée de la Castre is its square tower - only 109 steps up and you will see a 360° panorama of Cannes.

It is better to check the opening hours in advance, since in the high season (from July to August) the museum is open from 10:00 to 19:00 without breaks and weekends. In other periods, the museum is closed on Monday and from 13:00 to 14:00 for a lunch break. The last entry is possible 30 minutes before the museum closes.

Where the best view of Cannes opens

Not far from the museum, there is a stone church in the Gothic style of Notre Dame d’ Esperance, which was built in the 1600s and has been a historical monument since 1937. The church is located on a hilltop, so it also offers a beautiful view of the city.

How to get to the Sainte-Marguerite Island in Cannes

Just a kilometer from Cannes, there is the Sainte-Marguerite Island, which is part of the Lerins Islands. A perfect place for walking in nature, because the entire territory of the island is covered with eucalyptus and pine forests. Lovers of secrets will also like it, as Fort Royal, which used to be a prison, is located on the island, and especially curious people can even visit the cell of the famous prisoner known as a Man in the Iron Mask, whose real name is still a mystery to others. Also in Fort Royal, there is the Maritime Museum, where you can see exhibits from sunken ships. The Maritime Museum is closed on Mondays.
